You might try using Museum Putty. We use it on everything in our 3yr old daughter's room. We use it for extra security on wall art, lamps or fragile items on shelves. It will give you the freedom to place the letters anywhere you want and still be able to remove them if you decide you want to change the way you display them.

Personally I would put them on a shelf. That way if you ever move house, or change your mind and want to fix them to something more permanent, you can do.

I like the idea of a shadow box or frame to make them pop a bit more, add more interest. They're really neat and they would do well being highlighted in some way.
